Molecules June 2022: Editorial – Bronagh O’Hagan, Eurogas Communications Director

Dear readers,

There’s no shortage of updates to stay on top of these days, so this edition of Molecules is as full as your calendars are right now. In June, we took part in the EU-US LNG forum, held our Annual Conference and launched GridTech. That’s before we mention ongoing efforts on a Just Transition and work in partnerships like ENZA.

The first meeting of the EU-US LNG forum kick-started work on a pathway to deliver on climate ambition and security of gas supply. Investor certainty is a key part of the puzzle, as outlined in our joint statement. We are very grateful to all who participated, including Melissa Simpson of Sempra who sat down with me afterwards for the Let’s Talk video below.

On the same day, we also held our Annual Conference with contributions from Commissioner Simson, MEP Bușoi, Eurogas President Didier Holleaux, and Yuriy Vitrenko, CEO of Naftogaz Ukraine. We also had an inspirational presentation from Rahiq Ullah of AeroDelft – a group of TU Delft students working on the world’s first liquid hydrogen fuel cell aircraft. Bringing new energy stakeholders into the conversation is an important part of a Just Transition.

In the same theme, anticipating change, Nevin Alija from Galp Gás Natural Distribuição (GGND), has contributed an article on how the company is informing their employees about the future of the gas sector. GGND has launched a series of workshops to share information about changes in energy policy with staff across the business.

We have some changes ourselves here in Eurogas with a new Transport Working Group Chair. Francesco Parisi, SSLNG Wholesale Manager at Edison, has shared his thoughts on how to decarbonise maritime transport. That’s not all. I had a great conversation with Federica Sabatti,  the outgoing ENZA chair a few weeks ago. Watch the Let’s Talk video below for some insights into ENZA’s thinking on REPowerEU and the buildings sector.

As a last point, thanks to everyone who joined GridTech this week. In collaboration with GIE, and technical partnership with ENTSOG, it’s the first event to leverage transmission and distribution system operator’s insights in such depth.

Thanks for reading and hope to see you on July 12th for our Renewable Barbecue.
