The webinar “CCS for a competitive net-zero EU” co-organised by CSS Europe and Eurogas on Tuesday 21 May 2024 (14:30-16:15 CEST, Zoom) will address the state of play of CCS in the EU and the challenges and opportunities for the EU energy sector, energy-intensive industries and EU workers.

    Cedric is a sustainability and public affairs professional with 25 years of international
    experience spanning several sectors, senior leadership roles and cultures. He has extensive
    experience in embedding sustainability prerogatives in corporate strategies, alongside the
    integration of sustainability-related public policy in sectoral and corporate decision-making
    processes. Cédric is a recognized expert on the net-zero agenda, the transition towards
    circular models, industrial transformation and green growth, and sustainable construction
    ecosystems. He is responsible for Holcim’s Public Affairs and Social Impactfunction. In parallel,
    Cedric currently chairs Construction Products Europe.

  • Chris Davies

    Chris Davies

    Director, CCS Europe

    Chris Davies is the Director of
    CCS Europe, a political advocacy and communications campaign body dedicated to
    pushing for urgent scale-up of carbon capture and storage technologies. Chris
    served three terms as an elected member of the European Parliament, leading the
    Liberal group within the Environment Committee and in his last term chairing
    the Fisheries Committee. He was previously a member of the House of Commons in
    London. His legislative work at the European level focused upon environment
    files from chemicals, waste and air quality to CO2 from passenger cars and the
    reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. He created the NER 300 facility under
    the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and has been instrumental in policy related to
    CCS over the last twenty years.

    David Berman

    Head of EU Public Affairs, Air Liquide

    David
    Berman is -since 2020- Head of EU Public Affairs at Air Liquide, a world leader
    in gases, technologies and services for Industry and Health and a pioneer in
    Hydrogen for 60 years. Prior to that, David worked as Head of Group Public
    Affairs for a global leader in the environment sector, water management and
    circular economy.

  • Hanna Biro

    Hanna Biro

    Policy Advisor, Bellona

    As
    a Policy Advisor at Bellona Europa, Hanna focuses on EU sustainable finance
    policy and advocates for CCS deployment in the EU. In particular, she is
    engaged in Bellona Europa’s just transition work and the public perception of
    CCS. Prior to joining Bellona, she worked in management consulting. An
    economist by degree, Hanna holds a postgraduate diploma from Vrije Universiteit
    Brussel (VUB) where she specialised in European Environmental Governance and a
    master’s degree in Comparative Public Policy from the University of Southern
    Denmark (SDU).

    James Watson

    Secretary General, Eurogas

    Dr Watson is the Secretary General of Eurogas, a role he has held since January 2019. Eurogas is the association representing the European gas wholesale, retail and distribution sectors.

    Prior to taking the helm at Eurogas, Dr Watson was the Chief Executive Officer of SolarPower Europe, the European solar industry association. Before joining SolarPower Europe, Dr Watson worked as the Director of Public Affairs for Weber Shandwick, specialising in energy and trade policy. Before coming to Brussels, Dr Watson worked for the Commonwealth Secretariat on a European Commission project on trade and sustainable development based in Ethiopia. Earlier in his career James worked for various UK government bodies in London and worked as a lecturer in Environmental Law at the University of Manchester.

    He holds a Ph.D in International Trade and Environmental Law from the University of Leeds, and is currently a Visiting Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

    Johanna Fiksdahl

    DG ENER, European Commission

    Johanna
    Fiksdahl is a policy officer and a seconded national expert on CCS in DG Energy
    in the European Commission. She has more than 10 years of experience from
    working in the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, on different topics
    – most recently with the government follow-up of the Longship CCS project.
    Johanna is an economist by training, with a Master of Science in International
    Business and Politics from Copenhagen Business School (CBS).

    Judith Kirton-Darling

    Secretary General, industriAll Europe

    Judith Kirton-Darling is the elected Secretary General of industriAll European Trade Union since July 2020. Prior to this appointment, she was a British Member of the European Parliament from May 2014-January 2020 and has previously held the elected position of ETUC Confederal Secretary.

    Judith built her European trade union experience both in the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) and European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers Federation (EMCEF), where she worked as policy adviser.
