Ion Sterian

Ion Sterian is a graduate of the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiești and specializes in drilling wells and the exploitation of oil and gas fields.  He is also graduate of the Faculty of Management, Economic Engineering in Agriculture and Rural Development of Bucharest. He holds a Master's degree in Management and a Master's degree in Management and Rural Development.  

Mr. Ion Sterian joined TRANSGAZ in 2007, as a representative of Transgaz’ major shareholder, the Romanian State by the Ministry of Economy, in the General Shareholders Assembly and further on, in 2013, he was appointed Chairman of the company’s Board of Administration. Since 2017, following the selection process in accordance with corporate governance regulations, he serves as the company’s CEO and is a renowned figure in the international energy sector. 

Mr. Ion Sterian has professional experience and expertise in both the energy field and corporate management, having previously held senior positions in various key institutions in Romania. He was Executive Director of the Technical Division within the Autonomous Administration of the Free Zone of Braila, Executive Director of the Autonomous Administration of State Protocol Patrimony, and in 2010 also served as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism of Romania.  

Under his close coordination, Transgaz is implementing one of the most ambitious and important plans for the development of Romania’s natural gas transmission infrastructure in the last 20 years, with investment projects estimated at over 9.1 billion euros. 

Through the implementation of effective management and visionary, innovative leadership, Ion Sterian has earned the trust and respect of his peers, European and international authorities and institutions, the media, and the company’s more than 4,000 employees. 

In recognition of his professional achievements and managerial qualities, Mr. Ion Sterian has received, both personally and on behalf of TRANSGAZ, numerous awards, diplomas, and accolades, and has been invited to deliver speeches on topics specific to the energy sector at both the national and international levels.
