Omnibus: Bring JURI vote to Plenary to address coherence and competitiveness

Eurogas, along with Fuels Europe and IOGP Europe, co-signed a letter to the European Parliament. During the JURI Committee's vote on the First Omnibus Simplification Package on 13 October, they also voted to skip a Plenary vote and go straight to Trilogue negotiations with the other Institutions. Our joint letter calls on the European Parliament to reconsider the JURI Committee report and reopen the file for a vote in Plenary.
In Plenary, the European Parliament would have the opportunity to address three key outstanding issues identified and shared by a wide range of industry stakeholders:
- Remove Article 22 from the CSDDD to maintain coherence and allow companies to concentrate on a single robust transition plan, as already established under CSRD.
- Oppose any reintroduction of sector-specific ESRS standards, keeping standards sector-agnostic and ensuring a single, coherent framework for all undertakings.
- Limit the CSDDD's extra-territorial reach so that it does safeguards European competitiveness and does not hinder companies' ability to attract gas flows while continuing to invest in secure, sustainable energy supply chains.
As in our position published in a joint letter in June 2025, we reiterate our firm request for a framework that supports ambition through clarity and coherence, allowing businesses to deliver measurable results for the climate and for Europe's competitiveness.
