Eurogas Welcomes New Member: FPE

FPE - Energy Employers' Federation, the new member of EUROGAS – The future belongs to those who collaborate

We take pride in being part of EUROGAS and believe that joining this organization will help us build stronger connections with similar groups from other countries, align our visions, and eventually develop joint projects that benefit our communities.

Natural gas is here to stay, support and create the future

We all know that natural gas is more than just a transition fuel—it’s also a key foundation for developing new technologies, producing energy, and driving decarbonization efforts. A large part of Europe’s and the EU’s heating and electricity generation relies on natural gas. It’s fair to say that the present and future of energy are built on natural gas.

Romania is among the leading natural gas producers in the EU and is set to become the largest. This is thanks to the upcoming Neptun Deep project, expected to start in 2027, led by two major companies that are vital to Romania's economy—both members of the Energy Employers' Federation. Together, our collective voice in the oil and natural gas sector will be stronger, allowing us to represent the interests of both companies and the communities that rely on natural gas.

The natural gas sector plays a crucial role in ensuring energy supply security, stabilizing energy systems, and enabling a fair and accessible transition for all social groups. The Russian aggression in Ukraine has shown how an economic asset can turn into a source of political uncertainty. That’s why we believe that local, intra-community resource production is vital and must be encouraged for the stability it brings to the regions where it operates.

New energy, new future

The Energy Employers' Federation represents 95% of Romania’s oil and gas sector, but we have undertaken an important mission for the future: promoting new renewable energy technologies and those essential for decarbonization. We aim to be a key connector and facilitator of dialogue with Government and Parliament representatives, as well as with broader society. For citizens, we want to highlight technological trends, innovations, and their benefits to gain their support, both as consumers and as members of the communities where these technologies can be applied.

These are important topics across Europe, which is why we believe that being part of EUROGAS will foster a valuable exchange of information and best practices that will benefit us all.

We have identified 11 development pillars for Romania’s energy sector, promoted through our platform The Future of Energy. These pillars include biofuels, biogas & biomethane, CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage), natural gas, hydrocarbons, hydropower, hydrogen, wind energy, geothermal (closed-loop system) energy, nuclear energy, and solar energy. Romania has been a pioneer in some of these areas and has built significant expertise, while in others it is just starting out. We hope that through shared knowledge, we can advance the development of these sectors. And because the interests of our countries often align, we believe we can support each other’s progress.

Legislation and regulations, development incentives, and preparing the workforce are all areas where we can advise and collaborate on. We are confident that we are stronger together and that the diversity of perspectives is a key resource for progress.
