Renewable Gas Conference & Barbecue

This year's edition, 'Advancing Europe’s strategic autonomy: Renewable gases for a competitive industry, clean maritime transport, and affordable heating'focused on the heavy industry and the maritime sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities for Europe to lead on decarbonisation and industrial competitiveness. We also explored how Europe can accelerate clean and affordable heating and cooling solutions to meet local and industrial needs.

We were pleased to welcome our Contributor Anew Climate Europe to our conference.

The conference was followed by the barbecue on the premises (18:00-21:00), for a relaxed evening of networking, tasty food and refreshing drinks.

Please note: photographs and videos were taken during the event for public communication purposes.

Clean energy, competitive industry: hydrogen and biomethane for industrial decarbonisation

Industrial competitiveness is now at the heart of EU debates on the Green Deal Industrial Plan and strategic autonomy. The EU ETS is one of Europe’s most successful climate policies and a cornerstone of its decarbonisation strategy, but it is under growing pressure due to concerned about competitiveness and investment leakage. This panel will address how Europe can maintain an effective and predictable ETS while responding to legitimate industrial concerns, and what role renewable and low-carbon gases and industrial carbon management solutions can play in giving hard-to-abate sectors a credible decarbonisation pathway.

Clean Fuels, competitive shipping: unlocking Renewable and Low-Carbon Gases

The EU’s Clean Industrial Deal identifies decarbonising the shipping sector as a top priority and opens important new opportunities for clean maritime fuels. FuelEU Maritime, the Industrial Maritime Strategy and the upcoming Union Database are designed to promote renewable and low-carbon fuels, provide clearer investment signals, support the integration of these fuels across EU and the deployment of bunkering and related infrastructure in EU ports. This panel will look at how these initiatives will contribute to Europe’s strategic autonomy, interact with IMO regulations, as well as how industry and EU policymakers can make the most of them to accelerate the uptake of renewable and low-carbon gas fuels for shipping, strengthen Europe’s maritime competitiveness and deliver meaningful emissions cuts along key trade corridors.

Clean energy, affordable heating: will gas play a role in Europe’s decarbonised building sector?

The EU’s heating and cooling transition is both an environmental necessity and an opportunity to keep energy bills under control for households and businesses. Europe’s diverse building stock, climates and local infrastructures mean a one-size-fits-all approach is unlikely to deliver the fastest or most cost-effective emissions cuts. This panel will look at how an integrated, multi-energy and multi-technology strategy – combining efficiency, electrification, district solutions and renewable and low-carbon gases – can accelerate decarbonisation while enhancing system flexibility. Panellists will discuss how to use the evolving EU heating and cooling framework to enable local choices, unlock investments and scale solutions that work for consumers, industry and networks alike.
