Eurogas in collaboration with Enlit is pleased to invite you to the hub session 'Delivering EU climate targets: What role for gaseous energy?'.

The session will take place in the framework of Enlit Europe 2024 (22-24 October | Fiera Milano di Rho, Milan, Italy): join us on 22 October (13:30-15:00) at the Decarbonisation Hub.

The session will offer the opportunity to present the preliminary findings of the Eurogas/Frontier Economics' study 'Ensuring Resilience in the European Energy Transition: Strategic Use of Gases to Deliver EU Climate Ambition'.

Session highlights:

The landscape for renewable gases within the EU is rapidly evolving with the introduction of various new legislations at the EU level. For organisations active in this field, a deep comprehension of these changes and emerging opportunities is crucial. In the context of the EU climate target for 2040 initiative, the panel will provide insights into the potential of renewable gases in the forthcoming decades as we strive for climate neutrality.

Learn how the early development of renewable and low carbon gaseous energy projects enhances the resilience of the energy transition and increases the likelihood of achieving EU climate and energy targets.

Andreas Guth is the Secretary General of Eurogas, a role he has held since September 2024.

Andreas is a seasoned EU affairs professional and Policy Director at Eurogas. With over 15 years of experience in EU affairs in Brussels, he has been at the forefront of policy advocacy in various fields.

In 2019, Andreas joined Eurogas, the leading association representing the gas industry in Europe, as the Policy Director. In this role, he was responsible for the coordination and implementation of the association’s policy work and advocacy strategy, including on all relevant aspects of the Green Deal, Fit for 55, and REPowerEU. Andreas works closely with Eurogas’ members to ensure that their collective voice is heard at European level and that they contribute to shaping the EU’s energy transition agenda.

Before joining Eurogas, Andreas worked for the biofuels industry, where he developed expertise in energy and climate policy. His experience in EU affairs covers a broad range of sectors, including energy, transport, trade and customs policy.

Andreas holds an MA in political science from the University of Maastricht, where he specialized in European integration and governance. He is passionate about contributing to the development of sustainable policies that support the EU’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

Alessandro is a Corporate Strategy, Planning and Regulatory manager with 25+ years of wealthy experience in primary energy companies and utilities.

Alessandro has a long experience in italian Associations in the energy and environment sectors. He is President of AIRU, the italian DHC association, since may 2024.

From 2020 he is President of ANFIDA, the Italian association of water services private operators. Alessandro is also Executive Board component within Utilitalia, the multiutility Italian association, and member of the Advisory Board of Regulation within Elettricità Futura, the electricity Italian association.

Since may 2015 he is Regulatory Affairs Director within Iren Group, one of the most important italian multiutilities, leader in DHC and active in electricity and gas sectors as well as in integrated water services and environmental services.

Cornelia Müller-Pagel
Head of Green Gases, VNG

Mrs. Cornelia Müller-Pagel is a fully qualified lawyer and licensed attorney-at-law. After professional positions in Erfurt, Jena and New Delhi, she has been working in various functions at VNG AG for 12 years. Since 2019, she has overseen the Green Gases department at VNG, which bundles the VNG Group’s green gas projects, and is responsible for the project management of the Energy Park Bad Lauchstädt real laboratory. Mrs. Müller-Pagel has been a member of the board of the HYPOS Association since 2020 and Managing Director of Elektrolyse Mitteldeutschland GmbH since 2023. Mrs. Müller-Pagel is married and has three children.
