Gavin Nicol
Gavin has been a technology leader and innovator for 25+ years working at corporate research centers in Japan, and corporations and startups in the US and the Netherlands. A serial entrepreneur, he has co-founded multiple companies with successful exits to Oracle, Sina Weibo and others.
Working with the W3C, he has broadly influenced many of the technologies underlying the modern web. He played a significant role in the development of the HTML, HTTP, XML, XSL, DOM, XPath, SVG, XQuery and XLink standards, and in building some of the earliest prototypes and implementations of the technologies. He is considered “the father of I18N on the WWW”.
He is an expert in I18N, scalable blockchain and distributed systems technologies, security models, identity models, large scale data analytics, graph analytics, and on applications of these technologies within verticals.
Gavin is a strong team leader able to build consensus around a technology vision, communicate the vision effectively to all parts of the organization, then turn the vision to action. He has a proven record of leading teams to develop software in an efficient manner.
As Chief Technology Officer at Context Labs, he leads the charge in developing and evolving the products and platform technologies, applying his deep knowledge to drive innovation in data analytics, AI and quantification of emissions.
